On January 28, the third day of the impeachment trial of Governor Rod Blagojevich, the Senate heard about the Governor's alleged attempts to influence decisions made by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, and about the Governor's attempts to circumvent state rulemaking when the Legislature would not approve some of his proposals. The Senate also heard from the Illinois Auditor General Bill Holland about alleged financial mismanagement by the Governor.

At the end of the day, it was announced that Governor Rod Blagojevich had asked to make an appearance on Thursday, January 29.
