More than1,500 bills have been introduced to date, as Illinois state lawmakers begin the 96th General Assembly in earnest.

On February 10 and 11, Senate and House of Representative committees began considering legislation, and Senator Tim Bivins says lawmakers will continue to file bills until the February 20 deadline.

On February 12, Illinois citizens joined people across the nation and the world to honor the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. Senator Bivins said Illinois should be proud to be known as the Land of Lincoln. The 16th President of the United States rose from humble beginnings to take a place in history unlike any other. Lincoln guided the nation through a time of terrible division over the issue of slavery and struggled mightily, often in the face of great opposition, to preserve the union.
