State government debt and overdue bills continue to pile up, but that didn’t stop the passage of new spending proposals in Springfield April 3, despite strong opposition by Senator Tim Bivins and his Senate Republican colleagues.

Proposals to expand Medicaid to cover families of four making as much as $85,000 per year, and to divert more than $500 million from special state accounts for other new spending –  including millions of dollars for pork projects in Chicago – were approved by strictly party-line votes.
