A state commission approved the controversial sale of Thomson Correctional Center this week, giving Governor Pat Quinn a legislative green light to proceed with the sale of the facility, according to Senator Tim Bivins.

However, Governor Quinn continues to come under fire as lawmakers and the public demand more information about his Meritorious Good Time (MGT Push) program, which was intended to release non-violent state inmates as a way to save the state money, but which resulted in the release of inmates convicted of DUI, aggravated battery and weapons violations.

On January 6, legislative members of the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (COGFA) voted 7 – 4 to sell Thomson Correctional Center to the federal government. If the sale takes place, the facility will house federal detainees formerly located in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba—including suspected terrorists." />
