Lawmakers worked in their districts during the week though many legislators attended public redistricting hearings scheduled throughout the state, according to Senator Tim Bivins.

Senator Bivins attended a hearing April 16 in Peoria (pictured with Senator Darin LaHood of Peoria). Witnesses at that hearing said gathering public testimony before a map is drawn is valuable. They also urged the Senate Committee on Redistricting to conduct similar hearings after a proposed map has been drafted, so residents can weigh in on any proposal.

Citizens, grassroots organizations, and special interest groups are encouraged to participate in these hearings by offering suggestions and insights on the legislative redistricting process.
