Staying current in the never-ending, always-changing battle against illegal drugs is the aim of legislation sponsored by Senator Tim Bivins that targets criminals who use those drugs as a weapon against others.

House Bill 21 expands current law addressing drug-induced homicide crimes to include a drug-induced death caused by absorption of an unlawfully delivered controlled substance.

“You constantly struggle to keep laws current with the technology and the new ways people have of circumventing the law,” said Senator Bivins, who served more than 32 years in law enforcement. “This legislation adds the offense of ‘absorption.’ Some of the newer drugs, the patches, can cause heart failure and can be used to commit a murder."" />
