Eight students who live in the 45th District and will be attending state universities in Illinois have been selected to receive General Assembly Legislative Scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year, according to Senator Tim Bivins.

“Higher education is not one of the current Administration’s budget priorities, so many universities have had to increase their tuition, which in turn makes it tough on students and their families,” Senator Bivins said. “We hope the Governor will rethink his attitude toward higher education, but in the meantime, the General Assembly Legislative Scholarships program allows Illinois lawmakers to help students reach their academic goals.”

Senator Bivins established a Scholarship Committee, which selected the students based on leadership qualities and academic accomplishments.
